Hair For Hope

 Hair for Hope 2012 (16 July 2012)

This is the sixth consecutive year of partnership with Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) for Hair for Hope 2012, a fund-raiser event in support of children with cancer and their families.

We are proud to have 58 Edgefield shavees for one of which is the only female outstanding shavee, Ho Min Xi Theodora from 3 Love. Others who enthusiastically participate include Mr David Ng and Mr Hamzah, both are our very own teachers, Mdm Chua Bee, teacher from Mercu After-School Students’ Care Centre, Mr Liew Kiah Wah, our OSO, and Mr Sim, our school security guard. This year, we also have the honour of having Huamin Primary joining us. “I have learnt the importance of helping people who need help and each of us can make a positive difference.” Said Mr Edmund Lim, Principal of Huamin Primary, who is one of the 17 shavees from the school.

Big things start small, but our hearts are definitely filled with big love and compassion. The room is filled with the sound of cheers and applause as Mdm Tan Lay Wah, our Vice-Principal handed a total of $5500 donation to CCF. The donation will be utilised to support and improve the lives of the cancer children and their families.

Nevertheless, the human spirit that grows within us during this meaningful event is stronger than anything that can happen. On behalf of CCF, we would like to thank everyone for your support. Hope to see you again in 2013!

 Hair For Hope 2010 (11 Aug 2010)

Kudos to our 49 pupils, parent, teachers and principal who bravely shaved off their locks once again in support of the Children's Cancer Foundation (CCF)!  This is the fourth year Edgefield Primary has participated in the satellite event where our pupils have the opportunity to show compassion and support to young cancer patients by shaving bald.

It is Edgefield’s pilot collaboration with Montfort Junior andMontfortSecondary School, in which two principals, our principal, Mr Willy Tan and Mr Andrew Mah ofMontfortSecondary Schoolhave volunteered to shave bald. As Mr Willy Tan says, “Hair for Hope is not just about the hair. More importantly, it’s about the hope, a hope for a better community where we respect each other.”

Heidi Lim En Ya, 2 Hope, is the only girl who has bravely parted with her crown and her father, Mr Lim Boon San decided to support her in action. Edgefield family has raised a total of $5,500 for CCF through pledge cards which will be channeled to improve the quality of lives of the young cancer patients and their families.

‘Going Bald Boldly’ - Hair For Hope 2009

Edgefield Primary held her 3rd Hair For Hope Satellite Event, organized by the Children’s Cancer Foundation on 15 July 2009. It was the first time we had female participants shaving bald in Edgefield Primary School.  Pearline Tan (3 Love), with two other girls, Nur Nadia (3 Love) and Jeyadurga (2 Charity), our Tamil Language teacher, Mdm Gowri and a female parent (Vimala) were among the 65 Edgefield family members who shaved bald to support the children with cancer. Pearline Tan returned to school after being diagnosed to have leukemia in 2007. She received treatment since then and has now returned to our school. She was worried about how other people would think of her and was reluctant to shave off her newly-grown hair, but with her family support, she decided to take the bold step, to support other children with cancer. It was the second time that our Principal, Mr Willy Tan, shaved bald. He hopes to be the role model to encourage students to shower care and concern to their classmates and friends with cancer.
