All About Edgefield Dance Day @ Punggol
ADay to Celebrate EdgefieldPrimary School's 10th Anniversary with the Punggol Community by Establishing a New Guinness World Record and Singapore Book of Record for the Largest Cha Cha on the Street of Punggol
Date: Sunday 17 July 2011 Time: 2pm to 6pm Venue: Punggol Field (Road) Guest-of-Honour: DPM Teo Chee Hean Host MP: Ms Penny Low
Edgefield Primary School celebrates its 10th anniversary this year as a community committed to building, empowering and touching lives. As a highlight of the celebrations, the school will attempt to break the Guinness World of Records and the Singapore Book of Records for the most people dancing the cha-cha on Sunday, 17 July 2011. This is organised in conjunction with the annual Inter-Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC) Street Parade.
After months of meticulous planning and preparation, the school is gearing up to leave an enduring legacy for community and posterity. More than 3,500 participants from the school community, alumni and Punggolresidents have signed up for the Edgefield Dance Day.
Involving Parents and Community
The school is positioning dancesport as a platform to promote the holistic health movement and is working with the Punggol Residents’ Committee to encourage Punggol residents to support this event. Beyond the school community, Edgefield Primary School believes in building a close-knitted relationship with its community through dancesport. We also recognise the importance of touching base with our alumni, thereby instilling a sense of loyalty and enduring collaboration.
To prepare all participants for the Edgefield Dance Day, the school has engaged qualified dance instructors to train them in the basic cha-cha dance steps. All the training sessions were held in the school. Four training sessions were held on 7 and 14 July for parents and the public who have signed up to participate in this event. For walk-in participants on the actual day (17 July), the school has scheduled a “just-in-time” training session to familiarise participants with the dance steps.
Cha-cha is a contemporary dance movement within dancesport, which is the school’s niche area. The sport promotes respect and develops desirable social attitude towards the opposite gender. In promoting dancesport as a co-curricular activity, the school intends to develop values and qualities such as empowerment, leadership, courage, discipline and social grace.
A Record-Breaking Feat
Edgefield Dance Day is expected to set a new world and Singapore record for the largest number of participants doing the cha-cha. The current record for the most people dancing the cha-cha was 3,270 and was organised by TVN Television (Poland) in Krakow, Poland, on 31 August 2008.
It's easy and you can do it too! Come join us in this record breaking event to put Singapore on the world map for Guinness World Record Holder for the Largest Cha Cha come Sun 17 Jul 2011.
We can Cha Cha Cha!
A group of parents had gone through the first round of Cha Cha training with our dance instructor. I’m pleased to announce that these parents mastered the 16 steps Cha Cha dance in just one session. Well-done, parents!
