Engaged Learning Facilitative Teaching (ELFT) & WhiteSpace

Teach Less Learn More (TLLM), which aims to engage learners better and prepare them for life, was launched by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Education,in September 2005.

The “TLLM Ignite!” package aims to catalyse more schools in their School Curriculum Innovation (SCI) efforts. MOE believes that such ground-up initiatives will engage students and cater to their learning needs better. SCIs were selected based on their good spread of interesting ideas in teaching and learning which are worth exploring. Edgefield Primary School's SCI on ELFT - Live & Online was one of the SCIs selected by MOE for the TLLM Ignite 2 journey.

Edgefield Primary School's TLLM efforts are manifested in the “Engaged Learning, Facilitative Teaching” (ELFT) framework.  ELFT focuses on the role of the teacher as a facilitator to level up the engagement of pupils in learning.

White Space Curriculum has allowed our teachers to explore and experience their roles as facilitators.  In addition, our TLLMIgnite 2 Research Activist and a team of teachers provided a theoretical and practice-oriented research dimension to explore the correlation between Online Facilitation and Engaged Learning in both the physical as well as the online, synchronous platform.

Our ELFT focus for 2010 is the further operationalize ELFT during curriculum time, promote team learning amongst teachers so as to be better facilitators as well as to explore and examine different models of ELFT.
